Went to a local craft store for yarn. First, I never really realized how many different types of yarn there are. Nor, did I realize that different weights meant different things. Anyway, not that anyone really cares that much about what I picked, so I’m going to attempt the first project in my book and knit myself a scarf.

I have medium sized needles. Now just need to find a video no how to really cast-on (the book doesn’t really do it justice).

Looking for the perfect Knitting Book

Let me start with a totally unrelated story. About 5 years ago I stopped buying bras in large department stores. Why… because there were to many choices for me to have to make a decision on what to buy. Besides size and color, there were various styles, shapes, different types of padding, various straps…it was just to much for me to process. So you can only image when I started looking for the perfect Knitting Book today what I was faced with.

Finding the Perfect Knitting Book

I guess my first issue with the knitting book search was I did it on my lunch hour. Yeah – little did I know that there are hundreds of knitting books on the shelves of Barnes and Noble. Sigh. The good news is I wasn’t going to leave without one, so I just sat down and started to thumb through them.

My next challenge, some of the knitting books had more pictures and less words. Some had more words and less pictures. I wasn’t sure which direction to go. Most of the books seem to go through the tools of the trade as well as getting started – so why I made this so difficult for myself – again, the reason I don’t shop for bras at department stores (hey, sometimes even Target has to many choices)

And the Winning Knitting Book is…

After more than an hour (sorry to those that expected be back at work at noon), I decided on The Kntter’s Bible by Clarie Crompton. I’m not really sure why I picked this, other than there seems to be some nice information on getting started as well as some clear pictures of how to knit.

You know, my old friend from work learned to knit not to long ago by taking a class. Maybe that would be an easier way to go.

Next stop…finding yarn. I’ll probably hit up a craft store on my way home tomorrow.

So I’m off… bookstore here I come!

My new adventure is to learn to knit. I think this will be a great craft for me, as I can bring it with me – along with my two kids and husband. Neat. Off to find some do-it-yourself, learn to knit books on the subject matter. I think I may have a general craft book somewhere at the house. Maybe I should try there first?
